KUTCH AND JAMNAGAR IN GUJARAT
A tie-dye technique producing a pattern of tiny dots, practised across Gujarat and Rajasthan for centuries, worked onto cotton, silk (often called gaji silk) or georgette.

Bandhani is a resist-dyeing technique, not a fibre, worked by tying off thousands of tiny points of cloth before dyeing so each stays the base colour while the rest of the fabric takes up the new colour. It is strongly associated with the Khatri community of Kutch, and practised across both Gujarat (Kutch, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Bhuj, Surendranagar, Mandvi) and Rajasthan (Jaipur, Sikar, Bhilwara, Udaipur, Bikaner), with Kutch Bandhani and Jamnagar Bandhani each carrying their own GI protection.
Region: Kutch and Jamnagar in Gujarat, and Jaipur, Sikar, Bhilwara, Udaipur and Bikaner in Rajasthan
GI status: Kutch Bandhani and Jamnagar Bandhani both hold their own GI tags.

Best season: Cotton or georgette bandhani: warm weather. Silk bandhani: cooler months or indoor functions
Bandhani's dot pattern reads best without too much bunching in the pleats; a contrast plain or bandhani-matching blouse both work, depending on how busy the rest of the outfit is.
