CHANDERI TOWN
A sheer, lightweight fabric from Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh, traditionally woven from a mix of silk and cotton, known for a glow that comes from the silk in the weave.

Chanderi is woven in three genuine forms: pure silk, a silk-cotton mix, and pure cotton, all from the same town and all GI protected since 2005. The silk warp is what gives even the cotton-blend version its characteristic sheer, glowing look, fine enough on a good piece that you can almost read text through it.
Region: Chanderi town, Ashoknagar district, Madhya Pradesh
GI status: GI tagged since 2005.

Best season: Spring and summer. Warm, humid weather
Chanderi's softness suits a Nivi drape with a slightly looser pallu; pair with a fitted cotton or silk blouse, since the sheer body does not hold a heavily structured look on its own.
