KAITHOON
An extremely light, sheer cotton-and-silk saree woven in tiny checks called khat, still handwoven on pit looms in Kaithoon village.

Kota Doria is woven in Kaithoon, a village near Kota, Rajasthan, a craft local tradition traces to weavers brought from Mysore roughly four hundred years ago. Its defining feature is khat: small square checks, like fine graph paper, built directly into the structure of the weave by the way cotton and silk yarn cross rather than printed on afterwards.
Region: Kaithoon, near Kota, Rajasthan
GI status: GI tagged since 2005.
Best season: Summer, the fabric it is best known for
Kota Doria's lightness suits a breezy Nivi drape with a slightly fuller pallu; wear it with a contrast blouse since the sheer body itself carries very little colour weight.
